Wellfield Botanic Gardens is a 36-acre, non-profit botanical garden located at 1011 N. Main Street in Elkhart, Indiana. It uniquely serves a dual purpose as a beautifully landscaped, interactive "living museum" with over 20 themed spaces and an active, operational wellfield supplying the city’s drinking water.
Highlights and key details of the attraction include:
Location: Just a short drive (about 35-45 miles north) from Rochester, Indiana, making it a convenient regional day trip.
Dual Nature: The site leases land from the City of Elkhart, which still operates active wells and water infrastructure on the property alongside the gardens and ponds.
Features: The grounds feature wooded pathways, sculpture displays, waterfalls, and dedicated areas like a Children’s Garden and Japanese-style gardens.
Year-Round Activities: The site is open year-round and hosts various public events, educational workshops, weddings, and the popular summer "Groovin' in the Gardens" concert series.
