ndiana protects workers under age 18 through the state's teen labor laws. WorkOne can assist in providing the infor- mation younger workers need to comply with these laws. The legal requirements include:
WORK HOURS — Indiana Public Law 199; this statute prohibits employees younger than age 18 from working in a business open to the public past 10 p.m.and before 6 a.m. when not accompanied by another employee 18 or older; and
WORK PERMIT FOR MINORS — Minors ages 14, 15, 16 and 17 must have a work permit to be employed by an organization within Indiana's borders. The state Department of Labor launched a new "Online Work Permit System" for teen work permits, which explains the circumstances and includes forms.
The application for a work permit must be obtained through your school or school corporation office. Information on the state’s teen labor laws, the special types of labor and circumstances under which teens may work, and the permit process is available at the state of Indiana Teen Labor web site. |
