"Dear Cathy and Michelle, Please share this with all, especially Cindy, Chris and Georgianna. I want to start by telling you all that even though my new (amazing) job did not come directly through the WorkOne office, I honestly believe if it were not for your WONDERFUL staff I would not be thoroughly enjoying employment at this time. The workshops I participated in helped me with so many aspects of my search, but there is one thing that workshops by themselves cannot do! That one thing is this: Give the personal, honest and totally necessary encouragement that I felt every time I walked into that office. You TRULY CARE and it is sooooooo very evident in what you do every day!!!! Before presenting this customer's comment, a little stage-setting is neces-sary to understand his situation. During two years of unemployment, Scott attended numerous skill-building workshops spon-sored by WorkOne at no charge to Indiana residents. Upon completing each workshop, Scott updated his resume to document his newly earned skills and his description of these abilities acted like a flashing bright light when employers reviewed his resume. Here is Scott's comment in an e-mail to a WorkOne academic and career counselor. "Dave, I just completed my first week at SmokerCraft [as a bill-of-materials writer at $14.50 per hour] and things are going well. I love it here. Right now, my strongest skill-set is Excel (thanks to WorkOne's Robbin). I'm learning the system and the product, and also the way the bill-of-material is put together. My new supervisor has been very supportive and helpful to succeed in this position." Scott added, "To the Job Club JUST DON'T GIVE UP! Over the two years I was unemployed, I sent out over 3,000 resumes and had around 30-to-50 interviews. There were times that I was ready to give up; to say, 'What's the point.' You just never know when your phone will ring with the next oppor-tunity. On Thursdays at ten and one, I say a prayer for all of you to find employment. Again, don't give up on yourselves.
