WorkOne's Internship Effort Helps Young Hoosiers Learn while they Earn; Work Duties and Workplaces Bring Large Benefits
South Bend Tribune Reports on WorkOne's Internship Program to Help Youth Learn and Work during Summer 2012

orkOne has helped place 117 young people in summer internships with em- ployers throughout Northern Indiana in an effort to provide very effective learning and working experiences.

The effort has been organized and monitored by WorkOne's Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) program, which features school-year as well as summer learning activities for young Hoosiers ages 17 to 21, the South Bend Tribune reported July 15, 2012. WorkOne staff mem- bers who serve as JAG specialists teach courses at regional high schools, but their guidance of teens goes further than classroom discussions.

"The JAG specialists are more than a teacher for these young people," said Chuck Knebl, WorkOne's communications manager.  "They're more a combination of various roles.  They mentor them, they serve in some instances as life coaches and counselors."  The internships help young Hoosiers develop technical- and soft-skills "through their own eyes," Knebl said.  "Then they're reinforced by our JAG specialists."
