Youth Seeking Employment Should be Aware that Employers Indeed Access Facebook for Evaluations, Fox 28 News reports
oung people seeking employment should recognize that potential em- ployers will view their Facebook pages to evaluate them, Fox 28 reported May 31, 2012. In a vital aspect of this evaluation, each job applicant — including teens — should remove any content from their Facebook page that they wouldn't want a potential employer to see. Each job appli- cant should have posted on Facebook only content that would be appropriate for employers to view; in other words, an applicant should post only content that reflects well on themselves.

LOCAL EMPLOYERS PUT HIGH VALUE ON SOFT SKILLS;
APPLICANTS SHOWING SOFT SKILLS CATCH ATTENTION

In addition, teens should be aware that Northern Indiana employers put a high value on soft skills in job candidates, and they should display their soft skills when talking to an employer. Soft skills include traits such as the following:

    Communicating well;
    Maintaining eye contact when communicating;
    Being on time; and
    Being courteous and respectful.

Moreover, teens looking for summer employment should ensure all content on their Facebook page could be viewed by a potential employer, WorkOne Communications Manager Chuck Knebl told Fox 28 news in a May 31 interview. In the Information-Age economy existing today, employers in Northern Indiana are using Facebook not only for their own branding but also for evaluating potential employees, he explained.
